Beginners are always welcome at ACT Shotokan Karate. In fact, you are invited to attend your first lesson free of charge!
Attending Your First Lesson
We cater for children (8 years and older) through to seniors, and novices through to Dan Grades. General training (for all ages and grades) is from 6:30pm to 8:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, with advanced techniques continuing on till 8:30pm.
We are located in the Sports Hall of the Belconnen Community Centre, Swanson Ct, Belconnen. You can find us opposite the Belconnen Bus Interchange, near the Belconnen Library. Entry is via the side street on the downhill side of the building. Free parking is available at the front of the Dojo.
If you don't have a Karate Gi (Karate uniform), please wear comfortable clothing such as a track suit. Please remember to bring a water bottle to every lesson.
Before you begin training, you will be required to complete the SKIA Informed Consent and Participation Commitment Form. For your safety, our Instructors are Accredited Sports Coaches and have current First Aid Certificates and Working with Vulnerable People Accreditations.
Joining ACT Shotokan Karate
After your first (free) lesson, our training fees are $50 per month or $15 per lesson. To encourage family participation, the second and subsequent family member trains for half price ($25/Monrth and $10/Lesson). We are a non-profit organisation, so your fees go towards Dojo expenses such as hall hire and event subsidy.
Should you decide to become a Member of the SKIA, you will need to complete the SKIA Application for Membership Form. The SKIA Membership Fee ($85 for children and $90 for adults) includes Joining Fee, Annual Fee and Compulsory Sports Insurance.
Karate Gi (Karate uniforms) can be purchased from your Instructor.
